Throughout 2025, the Climate Weeks served as a preparatory roadmap for COP30 in Belém (PA), with Brazil taking on a leading role in an action-oriented agenda focused on concrete, nature-based solutions. The New York Climate Week, in particular, acts as an indicator of the real commitment of companies and investors to accelerate mitigation and adaptation measures to address climate change.

These events are crucial because they bring together governments, businesses, and civil society to discuss and create practical actions to combat climate change — advancing commitments, fostering innovation and collaboration among experts, and promoting policy discussions. They are key spaces for achieving global goals such as those set by the Paris Agreement. For the Arapyaú Institute, the priority topics in these debates have been forest restoration and agri-food systems. “We responded to the COP30 Presidency’s call to join the collective effort in building a proactive agenda, contributing through our work on strategic areas such as food systems and restoration — both central to decarbonization,” explains Bruna Mattos, Project and International Cooperation Partnerships Coordinator at Arapyaú.

The Climate and Nature Solutions from Brazil report, published by Arapyaú, Instituto Itaúsa, and Página22 — whose second edition was launched during New York Climate Week — is an example of this action-oriented effort. The document compiles mature and promising initiatives already underway across the country, reinforcing Brazil’s image as a nation capable of offering practical and scalable responses to the global climate crisis.

The main cycle of meetings leading up to COP30 began in London in June, with the first dialogue of the Global Ethical Balance (GEB). The initiative, led by the Brazilian government in partnership with the UN, marked the start of a global mobilization to integrate ethical values into climate discussions and to produce a synthesis report to be presented at COP30. The following month, Belém (PA) hosted the first Amazon Climate Week, where discussions focused on bioeconomy — reaffirming the biome’s strategic role in sustainable development and in the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Soon after, in São Paulo, in August, the focus turned to accelerating climate innovation through partnerships and solutions aimed at scaling technologies and initiatives already in motion. Finally, during New York Climate Week in September, Brazil stood out by showcasing nature-based solutions and reinforcing the urgency of advancing agendas such as forest restoration, food systems, and climate justice.

According to Bruna, one of the most significant highlights of this cycle was the mobilization around climate finance. “We saw major progress in discussions about the Tropical Forest Forever Facility (TFF) — an innovative mechanism proposed by Brazil to reward countries that preserve their forests. It’s an idea gaining momentum among governments and international leaders,” she says.

She also notes that the COP30 Presidency’s call for broad mobilization around action agendas — involving the private sector, civil society, and local governments — has resonated globally. “Brazil is leading a movement in favor of implementation, recognizing and activating the transformative potential of multiple actors — from the public and private sectors to civil society. This shift is essential for advancing the realization of existing agreements and for promoting effective action for the climate, nature, and people,” she concludes.

Now, expectations are high that the first Climate Conference held in the Amazon will be a milestone of transition — not only in political commitments but in the effective implementation of strategies for a fair, regenerative, and low-carbon economy.
