Instituto Arapyaú expresses its deep sorrow over the passing of Adnan Demachki, former mayor of Paragominas, whose career was marked by public commitment, a transformative vision, and dedication to the sustainable development of the Amazon.
He was a leader who helped transform the reality of Paragominas with courage, innovation, and the ability to make things happen when few believed structural changes were possible. His tenure as mayor between 2005 and 2012 left a legacy recognized nationally and internationally, especially through the “Paragominas Green Municipality” program, which became a benchmark for public policy.
A lawyer, public manager, and member of the Instituto Arapyaú Fellows Program, Adnan contributed generously and strategically to the strengthening of initiatives focused on sustainable development and the appreciation of the Amazon.
In this moment of grief, we stand in solidarity with his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing Adnan. His legacy will continue to inspire actions toward a more just, prosperous, and sustainable Amazon.
