COP 28
The Arapyaú Institute will be at COP28 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, taking place from
November 30 to December 12. We will participate in various discussions alongside experts and
partners from our network. It will be an opportunity for civil society to reinforce the
importance of placing people at the center of discussions and decisions regarding the future of
the planet and humanity in the context of climate change.
This year’s conference promises to be one of the most important editions of COP since the
Paris Agreement in 2015. In a year that could be the hottest of the century, we will have the
first comprehensive review of countries’ actions to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C and
potential adjustments and ambitions surrounding the transition to a low-carbon economy.
Themes such as climate financing for developing countries and access to the Global Fund for
Loss and Damage for nations most vulnerable to the severe impacts of climate change will also
be on the agenda.
This will be a landmark edition for the world and for Brazil, which seeks to reclaim its
leadership in the global climate agenda. It is worth noting that in 2025, Belém (PA) will host
COP30, where countries will present new greenhouse gas emission targets.
